“The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison, along with actor Steven Weber will play in the UnitedHealthcare Pro-Am on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Harrison is making his first visit to The Principal Charity Classic this year. A self-described “golf addict,” Harrison fits golf around his duties as host of ABC’s “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” reality series. Harrison has also done his fair share of acting, having garnered roles in the popular television series “Alias,” “The Practice,” “Six Feet Under” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” His feature film appearances include “Bounce,” “Showtime” and, most recently, portraying himself in the comedy “Date Movie.” Read full story.

JUNIOR GOLFERS!! Participate in the FREE Drive, Chip & Putt event at The Principal Charity Classic. This challenge is 3-tiered-testing the juniors driving, chipping and putting skills. Junior golfers 15 years old and younger can participate with the chance to compete with a Champions Tour Pro and advance to one of four regional qualifying sites.

The Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo was recently presented the 2011 Iowa Tourism Award for Outstanding Event/Festival.

“The 2011 Principal Charity Classic was a tremendous success, attracting a record crowd of 75,000. On behalf of our fans, volunteers, sponsoring businesses and community partners, we’re proud and honored to receive this award from the Iowa Tourism office,” said Jamie Alt, tournament director of The Principal Charity Classic. The 2011 Principal Charity Classic has donated a record $750,000 to local children’s charities, tournament officials announced at a recent event at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines.  “The 2011 Principal Charity Classic was a tremendous success, attracting a record crowd of 75,000. With the help of our 1,200 volunteers, sponsoring businesses and community partners, we’re proud of another great year,” said Larry Zimpleman, chairman, president and CEO of The Principal®. “This tournament provides families, golf fans and young professionals the chance to experience all Des Moines has to offer.
