It's All "FORE Our Kids"
Bravo Greater Des Moines
This non-profit organization is charged with helping to enrich the quality of life in the Des Moines Metro area by increasing awareness, advocacy and funding for cultural institutions. Bravo provides one-year general, unrestricted support for administration, operations and programs of arts, science and history organizations. Last year, nearly $2.2 million was awarded to support 56 metro organizations.
Bravo is funded in part by public and private sources, including 28-E agreements with the communities of Altoona, Ankeny, Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines, Indianola, Johnston, Norwalk, Polk City, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Windsor Heights and Polk County. By working together Greater Des Moines provides vital operating support needed to develop a world-class quality of life in our community.
Each year, Bravo pools its Principal Charity Classic funding with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines to fund the Connecting Kids and Culture program. This program provides funding for transportation to outside-the-classroom educational experiences. It also provides teachers with a unique database to help them find the right local arts or cultural experience for their curriculum. This year, more than 44,000 kindergarten through fifth grade students in Polk, Dallas and Warren counties will benefit from the program.
“By increasing students’ access to the arts, we’re enhancing both their learning and community awareness of our world-class local arts and cultural organizations,” said M.D. Isley, Executive Director of Bravo.
