It's All "FORE Our Kids"
Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines
The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines is a donor-driven public foundation whose purpose is to improve the quality of life in Greater Des Moines through philanthropy. The organization works to improve the quality of life for all by connecting donors with their passions, fostering links between community organizations and convening local leaders to promote the common good.
Increasing the community’s connectedness includes building trust, civility, volunteerism and encouraging informal socializing and civic engagement. The Community Foundation believes that we’re simply better together. Making community connections builds on our remarkable tendency to reach out to one another and lend a hand to those in need.
“One of the issues we feel strongly about is increasing access of arts and cultural opportunities to children,” says Kristi Knous, President and COO of Community Foundation. “Our grants go to all areas of the community, and they help children in many ways.”
Proceeds generated from The Principal Charity Classic fund Connecting Kids and Culture, a program created in partnership with Bravo Greater Des Moines. This program provides funding for transportation to educational experiences outside of the classroom for kindergarten through fifth grade students in Polk, Dallas and Warren counties. It also provides teachers with a unique database aligning local arts and cultural experiential learning to core curriculum objectives taught in the classroom.
