Scott Hoch and Loren Roberts to play in The Principal Charity Classic®
Three of the Champions Tour’s top four current money leaders in 2008 field
(WEST DES MOINES, Iowa) – Scott Hoch and Loren Roberts have committed to play in this year’s Principal Charity Classic® presented by Wells Fargo, May 28 – June 1 at Glen Oaks Country Club.
“The Principal Charity Classic field is setting up to be one the best fields in Des Moines’ history,” said Principal Charity Classic Tournament Director Jeff Starr. “With Scott Hoch, Jay Haas and Denis Watson, we have three of the Champions Tour’s top four current money leaders playing in The Principal Charity Classic. We also have the top five 2007 Champions Tour money leaders – Haas, Roberts, Brad Bryant, Watson and D.A. Weibring.”
Hoch has three career Champions Tour wins, including back-to-back wins in February 2008 at the Allianz Championship and ACE Group Classic. He birdied three of his final four holes to win the Allianz Championship by one stroke over Bruce Lietzke and Bryant. The following Sunday Hoch won the ACE Group Classic in a sudden-death playoff with Tom Kite, Tom Jenkins and Bryant.
Last weekend he tied for second at the 2008 FedEx Kinko’s Classic after winning the 2007 title. Hoch has 11 PGA Tour career victories. Hoch, who will be making his first appearance at the Principal Charity Classic, ranks second on the 2008 Champions Tour money list with $920,452.
Roberts, the 2007 Charles Schwab Cup winner, has eight PGA Tour wins and seven Champions Tour wins, including the 2006 Senior British Open. In 2007 he finished second on the money list with more than $2 million in earnings. Roberts currently ranks ninth on the Champions Tour money list and has five top-10 finishes in 10 events this year. Roberts finished second to Gil Morgan at Glen Oaks in 2006.
