It's All "FORE Our Kids"
United Way of Central Iowa
United Way of Central Iowa’s mission is to improve lives by uniting the caring power of the community. United Way creates lasting community change by focusing on bold community goals in education, income and health—the essential building blocks to a better life for everyone. For six consecutive years, United Way of Central Iowa has earned a four-star rating (the highest rating given) by Charity Navigator. Only four percent of 5,500 charities earn this rating.
United Way of Central Iowa’s 2011 campaign raised $25,084,249, the highest total in the organization’s 94-year history. This total was $1 million higher than the $24.1 million raised in 2010, and $600,000 more than the 2011 goal. Additionally, 2011 marked the fifth consecutive year of community United Way support above $24 million. Central Iowa ranks second only to Seattle in per capita United Way giving among the country’s largest United Ways.
Each year, The Principal Charity Classic helps United Way of Central Iowa build lasting, positive change for the youth in our community. In 2011, tournament proceeds helped to fund part-time summer employment for Des Moines high school-age students from low-income families. The youth will work for central Iowa employers and local government. United Way partners will teach money management skills so the youth make good decisions with the money they earn. United Way will also provide academic support to ensure the youth graduate from high school on time.
As a community, United Way invites you to LIVE UNITED and help prepare our children and youth for a future of success. To learn more about United Way of Central Iowa, visit www.unitedwaydm.org.
