Mission: To engage and inspire Iowans along their journey of lifelong science learning.
If you’re looking for a fun, educational experience for the whole family, the Science Center of Iowa (SCI) is the place to go. SCI features interactive exhibits and unique programming to encourage learning and fun for all ages.
2020 Principal Charity Classic Birdies For Charity matching funds were directed to the return of the wildly popular “SUE: The T. rex Experience” to SCI. The exhibit, open through January 10, 2021, features the most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever found.
Below is a #SUEatSCI story showcasing the true impact of the matching funds and what this experience meant to one family in our community:
“My youngest son, Ian, LOVES the science center and like most six-year-olds, he also loves dinosaurs.
I hadn’t told him we were going to see a special dinosaur exhibit, so when he came downstairs having chosen his dinosaur shirt, I mentioned to him that it was a perfect shirt for the day. We stopped for a morning snack and he kept wondering what the big surprise could be.
“You know,” he said, “I bet it is the science center.”
If you are a parent, you know there are certain things you can’t hide from your kids, especially in your facial expressions. When he said it, I saw him peeking at my reaction in the rearview mirror and smile. He caught me. “Yea, bud. It is the science center. But this is a special event that we are going to see.”
When we arrived, I could hear Ian gasp in joy as we turned the corner to the main exhibit. He was totally in awe. We continued through the various activities and stations to learn more about what it was like for dinosaurs during that time.
Having SUE at the science center was a true blessing for me and my son. It was a unique experience that was able to break up the routine and give us an adventure to always remember.” – Erik Dominguez, Des Moines, IA
