The Principal Charity Classic is dedicated to helping Iowa kids succeed. We believe kids can achieve more with support from their community.

In 2020, the Principal Charity Classic distributed a record $6.7 million to Iowa children’s charities, with more than 130,000 kids benefiting from programming provided by these organizations.

The tournament has now raised more than $30 million to support Iowa kids since 2007.

In addition to the tournament’s statewide Birdies For Charity Program, the Principal Charity Classic donates funds to four Tournament Charity Partners in the local community:

  • Blank Children’s Hospital
  • MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center
  • United Way of Central Iowa
  • Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa

Blank Children’s Hospital

Blank Children’s Hospital was built by A.H. and Anna Blank and opened in 1944 in honor of their son, Raymond. Since that time, the hospital has grown and undergone several renovations to accommodate sick and injured children. Today, Blank Children’s Hospital is a 96-bed facility that is committed to family-centered healing, caring, and teaching for children across Iowa.

The number of medical specialists, programs, and services is constantly growing to improve care and meet the changing health needs of children and families. Each year, through inpatient treatment, clinic visits, transport and outreach, Blank Children’s touches the lives of more than 80,000 children across the state and helping children in all 99 counties in Iowa.

Funds from the Principal Charity Classic are used to support programs, services and equipment needed to provide the best possible care for patients and families.

Fans, families, players and caddies logged millions of steps to raise money for Iowa kids during the Blank Children’s Hospital “Steps For Charity Challenge” at the 2018 Principal Charity Classic. Blank also named of the rooms in its new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit after the Principal Charity Classic thanks to the tournament’s support.

Blank Children’s is part of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines which includes Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Methodist West Hospital, John Stoddard Cancer Center, UnityPoint Clinic and UnityPoint at Home.
