Des Moines, Iowa (May 29) – The Principal Charity Classic and the Iowa PGA Foundation will conduct the Inaugural Principal Charity Classic Junior Open, a new junior tournament, at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday, May 31, 2021. The PCC Junior Open allows the junior golfers to play and experience the golf course just as PGA TOUR Champions players will later in the week for the Principal Charity Classic. Family and fans are welcome to the course for the PCC Junior Open. The tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. local time.

The limited field will consist of 80 junior golfers ages 12 to 18. The contestants will play 18-holes of golf on the same course that is hosting PGA TOUR Champions later in the week. Participants will receive awards and tee gifts from the Iowa PGA Junior Tour and the Principal Charity Classic. A Major Point Event on the Iowa PGA Junior Tour, the Iowa PGA staff will administer the event.

“We are very excited to host the Inaugural PCC Junior Open as part of tournament week for the Principal Charity Classic,” said tournament director Doug Habgood. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the boys and girls to experience an event just like a PGA TOUR Champions professional. This is also a chance for us to partner with the Iowa PGA Foundation to make a positive impact on our junior golf community.”

The 2021 Principal Charity Classic will take place from June 2-4 with one of the strongest fields ever visiting the historic Wakonda Club. About the Iowa PGA Foundation and Junior Tour

The Iowa PGA Foundation utilizes the game of golf to positively impact lives through charitable giving with emphasis on scholarships, junior golf and injured veterans. The Iowa PGA Foundation received its 501(c)3 status by the Internal Revenue Service in May of 2011.  The Iowa PGA Foundation was formed as a charitable arm of the Iowa PGA Section, which is a 501(c)6 corporation.  The goals of the Foundation involve golf for children, scholarships and support for injured veterans.

The Iowa PGA Junior Tour consists of single and multi-day events. Juniors will either play 9 or 18 holes on a tournament day. Some events will be played over two days. Players should be able to walk and carry their clubs for eighteen holes. Players should also be able to keep score and keep pace with the rest of the players. Events will be categorized into 4 different point levels: Major, Ace, Eagle or Birdie. The point level of the event will determine the amount of Player of the Year points awarded.
