Des Moines, IA (March 11, 2021) – PGA TOUR Champions and the Principal Charity Classic today announced plans to welcome a limited number of attendees on-site for this year’s tournament, scheduled for June 1-6 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines.

Tournament organizers and local officials determined in accordance with city and state protocols that approximately 5,000 people per day may attend the tournament, which has raised more than $30 million for Iowa children’s charities since 2007. Last year’s event raised a record $6.7 million despite being canceled due to COVID-19.

“The Principal Charity Classic has an incredible track record of uniting our community around the common cause of improving the lives of Iowa children,” said Dan Houston, chairman, president, and CEO of Principal Financial Group®. “As we plan for the 2021 tournament, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of all participants and we will take all necessary steps to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the fans, volunteers, sponsors, and players.”

Organizers will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and work with state and local officials, including public health authorities through the week of the tournament. As of today, the following policies and procedures, among others, will be in place for the tournament this summer:

  • Facial coverings will be mandatory for all spectators, staff, and volunteers unless actively eating or drinking.
  • Daily temperature checks and health screening questionnaires prior to entry.
  • Sanitation stations will be available throughout the grounds. Spectators will be encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizers and facial coverings.

All tickets purchased for the 2020 Principal Charity Classic will be honored for the 2021 tournament. Additional general public tickets will be released in pods of 500 per day beginning today and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis exclusively at principalcharityclassic.com.
