Volunteer for this year’s Principal Charity Classic.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping the tournament operate smoothly, which ensures that we can maximize our contributions to charity partners. Golf knowledge isn’t required to volunteer, and the tournament offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for golfers and non-golfers alike.

We will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling requests. Make sure to list your request in the “Work with or Committee Selection” portion of the registration process. You may exchange your uniform at Volunteer Headquarters prior to your first shift. After uniform distribution, we can’t guarantee that your needed size will be available to exchange.

Volunteer Orientation will be virtual this year. We will offer two training sessions (May 20 & May 22). All registered volunteers will receive an email in early May that contains a link to the virtual orientations. Please plan to attend one of these orientations to ensure you are prepared for your volunteer experience.

Please make every effort to attend Volunteer Orientation, however, if you are unable to attend your committee chairperson will provide you with the necessary information.

Volunteer Headquarters (VHQ) is where volunteers go to get food, refreshments, sunscreen, bug spray, tournament programs, and more! Volunteer Headquarters is located inside the Wakonda clubhouse on the east side and is open 1.5 hours prior to the first tee time and one hour after the final group finishes.

Committee assignments begin in early April. After you’ve been assigned to a committee, you will receive a confirmation email with your committee assignment and committee chairperson’s contact information. You can also view your assigned committee by logging into your volunteer portal.

Your committee chairperson will reach out at the beginning of May to begin scheduling your shifts.

Committee chairpersons will begin scheduling shifts at the beginning of May. Once scheduled, you can view your assigned shifts by logging into your volunteer portal.

Dedicated (volunteer only) shuttles will transport volunteers to the volunteer only entrance conveniently located near Volunteer Headquarters and the driving range on the south side of the golf course. Volunteer shuttles will run on a continuous basis beginning at various times each day and ending approximately one hour after the final event of the day concludes. The health and safety of our volunteers, and all those involved with the Principal Charity Classic, is our number one priority. We have updated the tournament’s safety plan to include the following requirements for all volunteers:

  • Temperature Screening: Prior to boarding a parking shuttle or entering the grounds, volunteers will be screened and must register a temperature of 100.4°F or lower.
  • Questioning: In addition to temperature screening, volunteers will be asked a series of questions to ensure they aren’t exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or been in contact with anyone with symptoms.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: The tournament will provide face masks to all volunteers if the state of Iowa or Polk County requires them to be worn at the time of the event.
  • Sanitization: All volunteers will be provided with hand sanitizer, and there will be hand sanitizer unites throughout the golf course, including Volunteer Headquarters. All venues and surfaces will be routinely cleaned throughout each day.
  • Social Distancing: All volunteers and spectators will be asked to maintain social distancing wherever possible.
