Volunteer FAQs

In 2020, the Principal Charity Classic will be utilizing the same uniform (polo and headwear) from 2019. What does this mean for you? If your uniform items are in good condition and can be worn again, you are only required to pay the $29 base fee outlined below. If you’re a new volunteer or just need new uniform items, that’s okay too! You will simply build your own package based on the items you need. It’s as simple as that.

What does the base volunteer fee cover?

  • Free admission for tournament week – your credential will serve as your ticket
  • Five (5) gallery tournament tickets to share with friends and family
  • Meals on days of service
  • An invitation to the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party
  • A one-time 25% off merchandise discount

When will I receive my uniform?

Uniforms will be shipped the week of August 3. If you did not choose to have your uniform shipped, please plan to pick up your uniform at Volunteer Orientation or at Volunteer Headquarters before your first scheduled shift. *Uniforms are not available for pick up at the tournament office.

What do I do if my uniform does not fit?

You may exchange your uniform at Volunteer Orientation or at Volunteer Headquarters prior to your first shift. After uniform distribution, we can’t guarantee that your needed size will be available to exchange.

What color pants do I wear?

Please wear black pants, skorts or appropriate length shorts.

How many shifts do I have to volunteer for?

We ask that you work a minimum of two (2) shifts over the course of the tournament, which range from 4-6 hours each.

Can I be scheduled (shift assignments) at the same time as my spouse, friend, etc.?

We will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling requests. Make sure to list your request in the “Work with or Committee Selection” portion of the registration process. Shift coordinating is only applicable within each committee (i.e. two people on different committees cannot be scheduled to work together at the same time).

How do I know what committee I’ve been assigned to?

Committee assignments begin in early April. We will send you a confirmation email with your committee assignment and chairperson’s contact information.

When will I hear from my Chairperson?

Your committee chairperson will reach out at the beginning of August to begin scheduling your shifts.

How do I know my schedule? And when will I receive my schedule?

Chairpersons will begin scheduling at the beginning of August. Once scheduled, you can view your assigned shifts by logging into your volunteer portal.

What if I cannot attend Volunteer Orientation?

Please make every effort to attend Volunteer Orientation, however, if you are unable to attend your committee chairperson will provide you with the necessary information.

Where do I park when I volunteer?

Volunteers of Principal Charity Classic will park in a designated area at Southridge Mall. Dedicated (volunteer only) shuttles will transport volunteers to the entrance conveniently located near Volunteer Headquarters and the driving range on the south side of the golf course. Volunteer shuttles will run on a continuous basis beginning at various times each day and ending approximately one hour after the final event of the day concludes. Approximate shuttle hours:

Tuesday: 6:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 5:15 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Thursday: 5:15 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Is there a minimum age limit to volunteer?

We have several junior volunteer opportunities for individuals 13–17 years old.

Can I watch golf when I am not working?

Yes. Your volunteer credential will serve as your admission pass for the entire week and we encourage you to use it. We do ask that you not wear your uniform when not on duty, so please bring a change of clothes if you plan to spectate before or after your shift.

Can I take photographs or ask for autographs?

When you are not working or in your volunteer uniform, you may use your camera during the pro-am days (Wednesday – Thursday). Cameras are not permitted on the grounds Friday – Sunday. You may ask for an autograph after the player’s round, but not while they are playing.

What happens if it rains?

The event will go on, and we will need your help! Make sure to report to your committee’s check-in location 15-20 minutes prior to your shift, rain or shine. Any weather delays or cancellations will be on WHO-1040 or KXNO-1460.

Can I purchase extra uniform items?

Yes! Extra uniform items will be available for exchange and purchase at Volunteer Headquarters during tournament week. Prices are as follows: Polos: $23, Headwear: $14 and Jackets: $45.

If I am no longer able to volunteer, can I receive a refund?

Yes. You will be issued a refund if you cancel before August 1. Please call the tournament office at 515-279-4653 to request a refund.
